My Oregon Posse

For the first ten days of this trip, I was wondering about bringing all the cold weather gear I had packed.  For the last two days, I've been really glad I brought it.  Today started off in the thirties, and it actually got colder climbing over the summits.  The day ended up in the sixties on the other side of the summits, so i guess it all averged out.  I started out today riding with my cousin ( whom I just met last night, and is the only person I know of who has real skunk pelt mittens) and her friend Jay.  Last night after a couple of drinks, it seemed like a fine idea to join up in the morning.  I'm not sure she felt the same way as it got colder, but it was nice to have somebody lead who could take me on the back roads, that I never would have found on my own.  After a brisk ride thru some great scenery, we parted ways and I continued on without my posse.  After going thru a lot of the state, I think that if you are a serious fly fisherman, Oregon would have to be on your list of places to go.  Seemed like every time I looked for awhile, there was a great looking trout river or stream.  I eventually found my way into the southeast corner of Washington State.  I know that Washington has a lot to offer in the way of mountains and great scenery.  The southeastern part of the state is not generally considered to be part of all that, but I have to say that I was really impressed with the vast rolling green fields of wheat that seemed to stretch forever.  I want to say thanks to my Aunt Wanita and Sue for their hospitality, and to Shelly and Jay for showing me parts of their favorite rides.  Tomorrow it's the crossing of Idaho.

  1. did you plan on stopping for tires in Kansas? We enjoyed the day on the parkway only 200 miles today. just a small treck compared to the staggering numbers your doing each day. stay safe.
