I Found Them

I headed west out of Lodi this morning, and sure enough I eventually hit water.  I'm not crazy about the California traffic, but it wasn't bad once I got to the coast and headed up hwy 1.  It is a pretty drive, but it is also very twisty in places, so you really have to keep more of an eye on the road then you do the view.  Once you choose to go on hwy 1 you're pretty much committed for about 100 miles before you can head back inland, so you don't make very good time, but it is a pretty drive.  Rather than go back eastward from Ft. Bragg, I opted to continue on Hwy 1 to cross over the mountains.  This is where I found all the curves that were never used on the ruler roads.  It was a fun motorcycle ride, with a lot (and I mean a lot) of tight turns, but I don't think I would like the road in a car.  There was a bonus for staying on 1 until the very end.  Just before you get on the main hwy, there were signs to come see the world famous drive thru tree.  I couldn't pass that up, so I made a slight detour and drove my motorcycle thru a massive redwood.  I had planned on riding the Avenue of Giants, but didn't know about this one.  The avenue of giants was really awesome.  Humboldt state park has huge redwoods, pines, maples and other species.  The redwoods are just amazing.  That was it for today.  It's up to Oregon tomorrow.
The last picture is because I think that anyone who takes that much time to trim his tree (the square you see on top is all part of the same tree), deserves to have a picture of it in a blog, so here it is.
